Blessing of the Animals - Sunday, October 12, 12:30pm
Each year around the beginning of October, Christians around the world pause to remember Saint Francis of Assisi, a man who lived more than 800 years ago, yet still inspires us today. Francis was known for his deep humility, his care for the poor, and his joyful embrace of all God’s creation. He believed that every living thing — birds, beasts, and human beings alike — are our brothers and sisters under the loving care of our Creator.
One of the traditions that has grown from Francis’s witness is the Blessing of the Animals. It is a time when we bring our beloved pets — dogs, cats, birds, horses, and more — before God in gratitude for the companionship and joy they bring us. For Francis, animals were not just possessions, but fellow creatures that reflect God’s creativity and goodness.
When we gather for this blessing, we are reminded of something larger than ourselves: that God’s covenant of love extends to the whole creation. In a world often marked by division and destruction, this act of blessing becomes a sign of peace and reconciliation. It is a way of proclaiming that God delights in life — all life.
You are invited to join us for this special service of the Blessing of the Animals, here at Trinity UMC, Sunday October 12 at 12:30 pm. Bring your pets, or even a photo of an animal you love, and let us together give thanks to God. May this celebration renew in us a spirit of wonder and responsibility — to care not only for our pets, but for all creation, so that every living thing might thrive.
As Saint Francis himself prayed: “All praise be yours, my Lord, through all that you have made.”
Harvest Celebration, October 19
A harvest celebration, in the form of a baked potato bar, will be held immediately after the Sunday service on October 19. Reservations for the buffet-style meal, which will include LaVeta’s chili, apple cake and ice cream, will be taken after church in the fellowship hall on September 28, October 5 and 12. As you reserve your spot, there will be an opportunity to make a $5.00 donation to cover food costs. All are welcome.
This is the 134th year of the Harvest Celebration!!
Mentoring Program Event
Our Mentoring Program will have its first event on October 28 at 5:30 PM. TUMC will provide a simple meal and members who would like to participate in mentoring will each be setting up a table with items from their careers.
Families can show up and learn about different career paths and connect with members of TUMC who have knowledge and skills to share. If you have a student in your life who is exploring what they want to do after high school, this would be a great event to invite them to!
If you have not completed training for this program or the Pen Pal program, and wish to participate, we will be offering another training on October 4 at 9:00 AM at the church in the Disciple Room. If this time doesn’t work for you, we will find a way to get you set up.
Please reach out to Megan Coelho if you want more information.
